Strategies for Successful Goal Setting

By Blogpost

It is all about moving forward when it comes to business. Achieving a business milestone opens up the way to new business goals. Companies need to find new ways to stay ahead in a competitive market, and setting new goals come with their own challenges.

Plan Carefully

While difficulties are expected, careful planning can help you prepare for them. Well thought-out solutions for possible issues should already be in place to avoid being blindsided by something that you did not foresee. This is the reason why it is very important to carefully lay out a gameplan when trying to achieve a specific goal.

Be Specific

When planning for a goal, you need to be specific. Being specific allows you to measure and know if you have achieved your goal. It also makes it easier for you to come up with the steps on how to accomplish that specific goal. So instead of “I want to increase sales this year.” go for “I want to increase sales by 10% for the month of October this year.” The more specific you are the easier it is to come up with a plan.

Be Realistic

It’s awesome to be ambitious but you also need to be realistic. Take a step back and consider how your business is doing and your staff’s capabilities. Set goals that are achievable in a reasonable amount of time. Examine your workforce and check if you have the right people to help you attain your goal. If you have a fairly new company, don’t go for, “I want my company to be in operation globally within the year” if you do not have the manpower and the resources to achieve that. Instead, set a more realistic goal and address the areas that need improvement. But more importantly, continue working on that ultimate goal.

Schedules and Timeframes

Make daily plans and monthly plans. Set a deadline for each task or step in your gameplan. Without proper scheduling and deadlines, you would not be able to track your progress and move on to the next step. Once you have mapped out your schedule and deadlines, you need to follow them. This is where you need to practice discipline to prove to yourself that you have what it takes to get what you want.

Learn from challenges

Even the most carefully laid out plan is not immune to obstacles. Some might seem too difficult to overcome but we just need to keep moving forward, making smart, well thought-out decisions and learning along the way. Conquering those challenges and learning from them is a reward unto itself. Overcoming challenges allows you to gain valuable insight and prepares you for what comes next.

Leadership Styles: Which One Are You?

By Blogpost

By definition, a leader is someone who controls or influences other people’s actions. He is someone who leads a group, organization or country. If you are in charge of a group of people who are working towards a certain goal then you are considered a leader. You have the responsibility of looking out for the members of that group. As a business leader or manager, you have to ensure that they are doing their tasks correctly and are satisfied with their jobs. The question is how do you go about performing those duties?

Different people have different attitudes and personalities. The same thing applies to leadership. There are leaders who are more hands-on than others. There are others who let their staff have the freedom to get things done their way. While others are somewhere in the middle. They still get into the nitty-gritty of things but give their people limited freedom to do things their way. With that said, what leadership style do you have? Do you see other leaders within your company who have the same style as yours?

Facilitative Leadership

This style of leadership is all about the outcome or results. It puts heavy emphasis on monitoring the group dynamics. A facilitative leader will offer suggestions and if need be intervene to help the group achieve its goals. If the team is performing well, then the leader will just use the light hand approach. Not interfering too much and will only give out suggestions once in a while. If the team is not performing up to standards, then the leader will be more directive in the approach to put the team back on track. Basically, it is a more reactive type of leadership.

Laissez-faire Leadership

If the facilitative type of leadership is about reacting to the group’s performance, the laissez-faire style leadership is on the extreme end of the spectrum. This style of leadership is about giving the team members the freedom to choose how they work with little to no interference. The biggest advantage of this leadership style is that you are giving your team the chance to shine and showcase their skills and abilities. This freedom allows them to be more creative and take risks for greater rewards. The laissez-faire leadership style works best if your business relies heavily on being creative and innovative.

Democratic Leadership

Communication is the strongest aspect of the democratic leadership style. Since everyone is involved in the decision-making, communication is very open and is encouraged. Although the final decision would still be on the leader, everyone is still empowered since their say affects the final decision. This is the most preferred type of leadership since great ideas can be gathered from back and forth communication between the leaders and subordinates.

When to Change Leadership Styles

By Blogpost

Our lives are not perfect. We are not perfect. At some point in our lives, we will encounter some sort of roadblock or challenge. We may stumble and fall but the only thing that we can do is to dust off ourselves, get up and move forward. Before moving forward, we need to look back at what caused us to fall. What are the factors that led up to it? What could’ve been done to prevent it? These questions and more would allow us to become better equipped in identifying a similar situation when it presents itself and hopefully avoid it as early as possible.

We also encounter the same situation in business. In business, we have goals and plans on how to achieve those goals. Just like in life, we encounter obstacles that slow or hinder us from reaching those goals. As a leader, we need to learn how to identify how those failures came about and make the necessary adjustments to avoid them in the future. You may need to make small changes in your company – like your leadership style. What do you need to look out for? What are the signs that tell you it is time to change the way you lead your company?

Your Staff Has No Enthusiasm

To an employee, one of the worst things that can happen, at least on the mindset perspective, is not having the enthusiasm to go to work. In their minds, it is just a painful grind that they have to go through. This can lead to low productivity and low work quality.

If you see this in your workplace, change up how you deal with your staff. Engage with them and be positive about it. Inspire them to do better but don’t push them. Make them feel that you have their backs. When conversing with them, listen and be respectful.

Poor Work Output

Even if an employee has the enthusiasm to go to work, their work quality can still be below standards. There are two easy ways that you can deal with this. If you are a hands-on type of leader, try backing off a bit. If you are the type who gives too much freedom, try being hands-on. Stick with what works and always give out suggestions and tips on how to improve the work quality.

Key Points

The idea is all about adapting to different situations. Do not ignore even the smallest signs of trouble. Assessing the situation and trying out different solutions are the keys to mitigating these problems. Never hesitate to change things up.
