Whether you are just starting out or already running a business for a long time, we all know the importance of generating leads and following up on them. Depending on which market we are currently engaged in, we all have our own strategies on how to go about them. Let’s try something here. Examine those strategies and see if you have a specific strategy for following through on those leads. Remember, following up and following through may sound the same but they are not. Following up is the communication-based of building trust while following through is the action-based of building trust. Following through continues until the action is completed. If you don’t have one, you are not alone. Generating and following up on leads is already common knowledge in business. What is often overlooked is following through. This stage is where things get done. This is what seals the deal.

The effect of whether you are following through or not will not only impact your customers but the other parts of your business. It affects your employees and your leaders. And what happens if the people within your organisation are negatively affected? It creates a domino effect that will produce less than desirable results for your company. So how important is following through?

Customers

Have you ever felt ripped off after having bought a product? What contributed to that feeling and what was the first thing you did? Most of us would get in touch with the company’s customer service to ask for a refund or a replacement. Any company worth their salt would try to resolve the issue and at the same time, retain that individual as a customer. Great companies not only do this but follow through on the issue until the customer is satisfied with the resolution. Not following through not only hurts your customers but your company as well. Follow through, build trust and your customer will reward you with brand loyalty.

Employees

Happy employees will take your company to the top. That being said, your employees’ morale depends on the reliability of your leaders. Leaders who constantly break promises or not following through on promises often result in team members feeling betrayed by the company. It will also instil into them that this type of behaviour is acceptable in the organisation. Just like your customers, follow-through, build trust, and your employees will be loyal to you.
