Setting New Business Goals To Help You Succeed This Year

Where do you see your business 10 years from now? Do you see it being an industry leader? Do you see it as being composed of the best people in the business? Or how about it being twice the size than it is right now? Now, what are the steps that you need to take to get you there? Hard work and focus comes to mind. However, you also need to set goals to achieve that vision you have for your company. Goals that you can work on, that when achieved, will take you one step closer to your vision.

Setting goals for the next 10 years is daunting and from what we have learned from the past year, life will throw a curveball at you which can mess up your plans. Take it one year at a time. Start setting up goals for the current year before moving on to the next. This will not only ensure that you will not be overwhelmed with too many goals but will also ensure that you will accomplish most of them by the end of the year.

Write Them Down

I can’t stress this enough but you really need to write down your goals. You may already have a clear idea in your head about what your goals are but they can become hazy over time. When thinking about which goals to pursue, make sure you have a pen and paper in hand or better yet, a goals journal. The very act of writing down your goals will make them stick in your mind. Having something concrete to refer to, like a goals journal, will help remind you what you are working towards.

Goals That Motivate You And Your Team

Come up with goals that will not only help you achieve your vision but will also motivate you and your team. Remember, when someone is passionate about something, that person will go above and beyond to achieve that certain something. Get together with your team and discuss what goals are worth aiming for this year. The more involved they are with this process, the more motivated they will be.

Make Them Achievable

Think back on the goals that you were not able to achieve. What caused you to fail? Perhaps they were too big or too ambitious. Try a different approach by setting more realistic goals. Scale them down and have a crack at them again. Another good approach is to break down a big goal into smaller bite-sized ones. This not only speeds up the process of moving your business forward but will give you insight on which tasks or areas are unnecessary or can be outsourced.
